The Table Series

My family of Czech and Irish immigrants resided on the southeast side of Chicago in a neighborhood called The Bush, sandwiched between the shores of Lake Michigan and the U.S. steel mill. My uncle Skeets continued to live there until his death at age 93. When I began combing through the contents of his house, I was struck by the time capsule of household appliances and was immediately drawn to a beautiful red and white enamel table. I created The Table Series as a homage to this crumbling house through a collection of still lifes and conversation that I imagine this table has overheard in its lifetime. The result is a 20 page booklet complete with 16 full color illustrations and meticulously rendered handwritten text.
