Smart Cuffs

This story was inspired by the 1937 union charter I purchased at a yard sale twenty years ago from a gentleman whose mother was a member of the ILGWU in Gilman, IL. I was always curious by the events behind the signing of this momentous document so I made up a little history of my own. I based the main character on my generously talented Aunt Ruth who would sew mod stylish outfits for me and my cousins. I cherished the floral Nehru jacket she made for me because the fit was perfectly tailored to my size and made me feel special. Both these elements became the catalyst for Smart Cuffs and provides the structure for my story which I created to pay tribute to all women of inspiration and craft. This 42 page booklet is hand lettered throughout and includes 17 full spread illustrations.
